For our Physical Education Programme St Bernadette's have started swimming lessons @Waitaha Canterbury Swim School.  Some of us were feeling a bit nervous about the lessons, but once we got there the instructors made us feel very relaxed and ready to learn.  The students are now loving their lessons and are learning some important information and skills about how to keep themselves safe in and around the water.  It has been fabulous to see our tamariki show resilience and respect and demonstrating our school's values of Compassion, Excellence, Respect and Responsibility, also called our C.E.R.R values while they are at the pool. Do you have a pool at your school or do you go to lessons somewhere?

Healthy Eating

This term we have been lucky to be part of the Ministry of Health and Education's lunch in schools program. Every day we have a lunch delivered for every student at St Bernadette's. The lunches provided are very healthy and the menu provides us with a variety of delicious food.  It has been great to see everyone trying new things and learning to enjoy them. As part of our topic work were have completed lessons and activities based on the theme healthy Heart, Body, and Mind. At the start of the unit, the learning has been around getting to know each other, appreciating each other's strengths and differences, and how we can work as a team in Room 3 and value those strengths and differences. We have also been learning how to grow our own healthy food and have planted lots of fruit and vegetables in our school garden. Some of the food is now ready to harvest and we have been using it to make soups and salads.

Easter Room 3 2021

Easter Celebrations. During the last two weeks, Room 3 has been learning about the history of Easter and researching Easter traditions. We have created stories, artwork, and movies related to Easter. At the end of week, we had an eggcelent STEM challenge where we learned how to create a parachute that would get a raw egg safely to the ground from the top of our adventure playground without cracking. We worked in pairs to create the parachute and then it was time to test them out.  If our egg cracked we were given the chance to modify our design to see what changes we could make to protect the egg. It was a great way to finish our learning about Easter. We have shared photos and examples of our learning on our own blogs so make sure you check them out and there are some examples of our work below. We hope you all had a safe and happy Easter. What did you get up to?
